Huge German gun emplacement
I passed the sign for this on the road to Verdun. It was
over 30 km away which gives some idea of the range. The gun was a 380cm piece –
look at the size of the shell!
There are various concrete emplacements around for shell
storage and loading onto little carts to bring the shell to the gun.
As you can see it is very wet!
So this gun was firing at the Forts I have posted about from
a distance of at least 20km!
Not sure if this is exactly what would have been in the pit
but it gives you an idea of the sort of thing!
