The plan...

Thanks for showing some interest in my personal odyssey across Northern Europe mostly focused on learning about the extraordinary events that shaped our twentieth century on the battlefields of WW1 and 2 but picking up even earlier history making conflicts like Agincourt and Waterloo.

It won't all be history - I plan on sampling a prodigious amount of cheese and wine on the journey and will have a special section on top goats cheese for those interested.

Big thanks to my employer, Boxwood, for enabling me to take up an extra four weeks holiday as a special reward for five years with the company. I'm not unique - this is available for all employees. Time is a great gift.

Itinerary

Paris to start with - arrive May 2nd and staying through May 7th
Bayeux - May 7th to the 12th, covering all the Normandy beaches
Albert - May 12th  to 16th, covering Somme region
Lille - May 17th to 20th, covering Agincourt and Ypres
Ardennes - May 21st to May 23rd, covering Battle of the Bulge and maybe back into WW1 sites near Verdun
Brussels - May 24th to May 28th, covering Waterloo
Holland - May 29th and 30th, covering Arnhem
Berlin - May 31st to June 3rd

Anyway that's the plan which as everyone knows seldom survives first contact with the enemy!

Blogging updates somewhat dependent on WiFi access as well as having something useful to talk about. Expect most activity to start next week once I get to Normandy.
