Ypres - Tyne Cot cemetery

Tyne Cot got its name from the nick-name the Northumberland Fusiliers gave to a series of German bunkers that somehow reminded them of the cottages on the river Tyne at home.

It is the largest British Cemetery in the World and includes a significant number of Commonwealth losses.

British - 8,900
Australia - 1,350
Canada - 1,000
New Zealand - 500

There are a staggering 35,000 soldiers commemorated here with no known grave.

In the centre is the wreath with inscription. You can just make out the lighter colour. That is the original bunker named Tyne Cot. The monument is built around it.
